Oxidation Systems:

A variety of oxidants such as air, ozone, chlorine & potassium permanganate are used to oxidize iron, manganese and selected odors. The particulated material is then trapped with an automatic filter bedded with several different medias (separately or blended) depending on the oxidizing agent. The most common systems use air or potassium permanganate.

• Oxidation occurs more readily with an alkaline pH
• Average residential backwash frequency is every 3 days, discharging approximately 200 gallons at a peak rate of 5.0 gallons per minute
• Limited effectiveness on manganese
• More effective on lower iron levels (less than 5.0ppm)
• Rigorous backwash to keep the media as clean as possible is best
